About Neil Barman

Neil is an Intern Architect (AIBC) based in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. He has been using Vectorworks since version 8.5 and has worked with several offices during his time in school and since graduation. He has worked with everything from completely 2D routines to full 3D/BIM workflows and has worked with all phases of architectural projects, from programming to design to construction drawings to final inspections.

In addition to his work in architecture, Neil is also a Workflow & Productivity Specialist who works with
Paxar Technologies Corp. to assist with Technical Support and creating content for Vectorworks users. Neil attended the 2015 Vectorworks Design Summit in Philadelphia and spoke on moving from 2D to 3D at the 2016 Vectorworks Design Summit in Chicago.

He and his wife Carrie Smart both trained at the University of Waterloo and designed and built
their own LEED Platinum certified home in 2012. Together they work on projects as Barman+Smart.

While at the University of Waterloo, Neil was trained in the art of hand drafting. In addition, Neil also received the Microsoft Award for Data Visualization for his work on a visioning and planning project addressing Toronto’s Port Lands. He continues to advance and share his knowledge regarding the visual tools of the profession.

When Neil is not working in architecture, you'll either find him behind the lens of a camera, on his motorcycle, pulling a mean espresso or building LEGO creations with his two fantastic kids.
